Mobilizing Private Adaptation Investment

In order to meet adaptation finance goals, the private sector will need to better understand adaptation and resilience finance.

2030 Goals

01

Embed adaptation and physical climate risk into private sector risk pricing, insurance, and ESG scoring systems.

02

Encourage corporations to integrate climate adaptation into core operations, especially in agriculture, logistics, energy, and natural resource sectors.

Status

No Progress

Private initiatives in Brazil, ranging from reforestation startups to sustainability-linked bonds and agribusiness supply chain programs, are mobilizing capital and integrating climate risk analytics to deliver biodiversity, water conservation, and resilience co-benefits.

Private banks such as Rabobank, Bradesco, and Sicredi are testing resilience-linked rural credit tied to drought and flood risk mitigation, as part of risk management in agricultural portfolios.

The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (CPI) anually accelerates and supports the design innovative financial instruments to increase the mobilization of private capital towards climate-related investments. Operating in Brazil since 2016.

Nature Investment Lab (iCS) was created in 2023 to support the development of advanced financial instrument related to climate and nature transition.
